Philips Hue gen 1 app good for
Everything works great except for Siri voice control, it keeps saying another user is already paired and to ask user for permission, problem is Im the only user and dont know how to ask myself for permission. Siri voice control worked before but not anymore.
Update: need to use the new app to reset Siri voice control and re-enter bridge code, voice control now works fine eleven after deleting the new version app...which is difficult to use.
I downloaded Gen2 a week ago. After a week of trying to get close to ease of original app and getting fed up I figured Id see if this is available to go back to. I had the old app for a year and it was SO easy and simple. Ive bought TWO other apps this week trying to get close to what the old Hue app did for free. Deleted both. What a waste of time!!
The old scenes I created dont carry over. The new ones- you get them set up and they revert back to factory settings (bright % and color saturation wheel) every time they are turned off daily. You can only choose colors for lights based on pictures they provide or use my own. So if I want a pink scene I have to find a pink picture in exact shades I want. Theres no color wheel like original app had to customize your room scene...
What exactly is the improvement?? You wouldnt even have this product in your house if you didnt want to specifically control the brightness and color scenes in your home... So why take away all of these features?!?! Ridiculous. This is the first review I have ever written! Ever! Im so frustrated
The new app is terrible. The developers should be ashamed of themselves for putting that junk out. Keep the functionality of the the first app.
This original app offers more customization options than the new one. I was taking it for granted before I tried the new app. Minimalism is not the way go to, Philips. Ill take this slightly awkward-looking app over the sleek pointless mess of the new app any day. I deleted it but Id try it again if they updated. Just please dont remove features from this one!
Do not delete this app! Read the other reviews on version 2, they are scary.
My first reaction to the new app was that it was confusing. No, it is different, and much more intuitive. I feel that most of the recent bad reviews were by folks that did not spend just a few moments to see how it works.

Hi Philips, please remove the gen2 notification. Its anoying for iPad users that can not use gen2 in landscape view. (Fix wallmount)
This is the most terrible update of any app. Ever. Its truly horrific on the iPad, it can only be used vertically (doesnt rotate with the iPad), ALL MY OLD SCENES AND SETTINGS ARE GONE, it seems to have been designed for near-blind people, setting up scenes is not possible without an extremely elaborate sequence, after an hour, I still cant figure it out, its really, really bad and Philips Hue on the whole is now a terrible piece of equipment.
Unbelievable that after (youd expect) a lot of thinking and developing, the conclusion is: Yep: this is the best we can do.
A disgrace and 100% fail.
It is not a new feature to tell me to upgrade to gen 2 every time I open the app!
When gen 2 supports iPad and not having to recreate all the scenes it will be worth considering.
You remove support for the iPad version, replace it with Portrait-view only iPhone version and call this progress? Cant hide my disappointment
please restore original app. the new version starts fresh and requires all previous settings to be manually input again, costing users many, many unnecessary hours of rework. cannot "group" lights in a room or scene for exact colour matches. unbelievable downgrade from the original app, which wasnt perfect, but was functional and much more practical than this. note to users, do not delete your old app before this app is "fixed."
this new app doesnt auto rotate which is frustrating. The old one does. Please fix!!!!!
