Philips Hue gen 1 App Reviews

Too bad

I am revising my review: This is awful, clunky garbage. I hope another company comes along and does this right. Save your money, this really is cheap crap.

below average

This app isn’t very well thought out and has really bad design choices. It also lacks obvious functionality like easy group creation. Then there are the bugs when using Siri…”scene has too many lights”…sorry but three lights in a scene are not too many for a scene. After a week of struggling with this app, I went third party. It works, sort of, but it’s not good…it’s not even average. Phillips Hue bulbs are amazing BUT it’s a shame the company can’t produce a reasonably decent app to control them.

Non-Intuitive and Lacks Basic Functions

This app works to the extent that you can use it to turn your Hue lights on and off. You cant group lights by room, only by the non-intuitive "scene" designation. Most frustrating are the "alarm" and "timer" functions. The concept of a light timer is well-established; it means a device that turns your lights on and off at a specific time every day. As in "I put my Christmas tree lights on a timer" or "Im going out of town so I put my living room lights on a timer." Not so with the Hue app, in which the timer function is like a kitchen timer, counting down a set time until they turn off. You cant schedule it to repeat, and I cant imagine what this would be useful for. If you want to accomplish what would normally be done with a timer, you have to set multiple alarms: one to turn your selected lights on, and another to turn them off. And if you edit a scene for which you have set an alarm, you need to delete and recreate the alarm, because it does not adapt to the new lights in the scene. Since timers and dimmers are the two primary tweaks for lights, and all I really hoped to accomplish with a Hue system, I was extremely disappointed to learn how complicated and difficult it is to schedule lighting in my home.

Gen2 worked great the first night.

So much functionality failed the second night. I cant change a light name. The only Siri/Alexa commands that work are all off and all on. Adding a second phone to the bridge connects but relentlessly returns a cant connect message. That would all be understandable but that NONE of the error messages I received were found in a search engine. Instead, I came up with sales info. The error messages should be in a manual that we can search against.

Very lacking

This is app is so behind in time. There is a lot features lacking. - no groups - no room -no sun run and sun set automatic feature. Please add more features make this app better. Third party apps are sometimes better than native app

Stopped Functioning

After update app no longer loads or functions

Love the alexa integration

Have moved to turning my lights on and off always with alexa!

This app is an utter disaster

Let me start by saying that I love Philips Hue lights. We have about 20 of them in our home in two different rooms. What I dont understand is how Philips can find this app in any way acceptable. Its horrible. The control it offers is extremely limited, and the interface and functionality it does offer is needlessly complicated. It lacks basic functions and severely limits the utility of Hue lights. Use a third party app until they completely redesign this one.

Great product lacking a good app.

I love my Phillips Hue lights, but I have been waiting for a decent redesign of this app since I got it a while back. This has good functionality, but it needs to be cleaned up, simplified and redesigned in many areas.

Almost awesome

This is a great app. I love the geofencing. I have multiple lights in multiple rooms. It would be awesome if one could organize and manage lights by room and integrated with HomeKit. Example: "Siri, turn off the dining room"

Pretty good...

Its alright in general, however the MAJOR thing needing to be added ASAP is grouping lights by room etc. because Im absolutely sick of having to turn them all on separately with Siri or IFTTT. Please update and add this feature. I would like to be able to come home and just have one room turn on not one light or the whole house! :/

Unstable, finicky app

I bought the start up white and color Philips Hue kit. Either the bridge was unstable or this app was unstable. For $200 out of the box, I expect more. A lot more. This app is not intuitive (like the Wink app is). The color control is clunky. Overall this is a huge disappointment. I will be returning the kit to the store and deleting the app. What a waste of time and money.

Not so good

This app is good if you only have hue lights in one room. If you have hue lights in multiple rooms this will be very difficult to control. The best app Ive found so far is "OnSwitch"

New Hue App Release Date Please

You people sure do take your time when it comes to putting on the finishing touches to any app you make.

Recent update.

After the recent update, none of my lights are responding.

Seriously

I realize that there is a new version coming soon, but whoever approved this black and white icon ought to be banned from having any design input in the future. Way to embrace a 1981 aesthetic.

Crashes

Congratulations on breaking the app again

Annoying update software nagging

Every time I launch the app, I have to dismiss the nag to update the bridge firmware before I can operate my lights. Very annoying if youre waiting to update until your other apps are compatible with the new firmware.

App wont open with new update

I cant control my lights

"Updates" shouldnt make things worse

Cant control my lights at all after this "update". This isnt even close to the first time this has happened. Anybody want to buy a set of hue bulbs? Im over it...
