Philips Hue gen 1 App Reviews

Works fine for me

I found the update to include a couple new, pretty minor, features that didnt bother me. I love my lights and the app works fine for me *Update* This hue app is MUCH better than the newer, "version 2" app. I have the new app and have used it for a couple months, but now almost exclusively use this one

Dont upgrade from your old App!!!

The new App is Terrible and Phillips could care less...

Latest update (July 16). Causes problems

July 2016 later update causes major issues. Some light staying on some lights going off. 2015 review: Not perfect, but better than everything else I tried. Better than Wemo... Belkin...

Lights no longer work after last major update.

After update and new app release, every light no longer works. After much troubleshooting, I decided to delete and research for each light. However, bridge can no longer find lights. I then had to remove all lights and power them inches away from the bridge and use the computer app to search for them. This finally allowed me to connect them. Installed the lights around in the original locations in the house. A day later, all of the living room lights already stopped working. Kitchen lights are somehow still connected and working. Did not have a problem with the old application besides missing some functions. Im planning on waiting now and hoping Philips can hire a new crew to make an actual functionable application. After all they should have plenty of money to do so after selling these light bulbs for $50+ a shot.

Cannot create new scene / synch for Siri

When I created a scene called nightlight and synched it with Siri voice and then deleted it and created another scene called nightlight and tried to sync it I get the error that it already exists and I have to choose a new name and cannot use Nightlight again and cannot get Siri to forget the old Nightlight scene.

Terrible App

I bought nine Hue bulbs. Here is the simplest review I can offer - the bulbs are fine. The Hue app is absolutely terrible. I cant fathom how it can be so poorly designed. Someone - or a group of someones - should seriously be fired. Starting with whomever was responsible for approving the app design and allowing it to be released. Then, start over. That is all I have to say. Update: August 2016 - though there have been updates to the app, it is still terrible, terrible. It is not intuitive, its poorly laid out, its confusing, it renders the product seriously compromised.

Great job PHILIPS!

This makes a house your home. These get very bright, all the way down to a faint glow. This app is perfect, simple, and gets the job done. I dont exactly know why people are bagging on this app. Theyre probably trying to download hue to their flip phones. You donkeys are too funny.

Most AWFUL APP ever

Just Awful. I dont even know where to start.

Not terrible, could and should be better

Like I said, not a terrible app. Nice to have a wide variety of colors to choose from for my lightstrip. But where is the customization? Pretty boring. And awfully expensive for how poor the app is. Roommate got a 80$ light strip with a remote that is just as good as mine, if not better. STEP IT UP BRUH

Awkward, tedious and difficult

This app has the potential to be awesome but its Awkward, tedious and difficult. Its a nightmare when you get a new iOS device even though it has "scene sync" but it screws it all up. Spend hours re programming it. They have new app which is slightly less Awkward, tedious and difficult but doesnt have the control as this one.

Still terrible

The original Hue app had was fully functional, this new app lacks basic functionality! You are now forced to do scenes by room and only 3 fit on screen at once without scrolling! Why does a button need to be almost 3 inches in diameter on an iPad? On the old app I had all my scenes for the house on one page laid out by rooms in rows. Hue lights would be useless without the original app, fix the new app or revert back to the original.

iOS update broke it

New iOS update (10.0) broke all widgets, and reduced the expanded number of widgets from 10 to 8. Not a fan of the new app, let me keep what Ive designed and whats always worked.

Not staying connected

I may be missing something but I cant keep the new version of the app connected to the bridge on either the iPhone or iPad. It would be easy to say its the bridge except the bridge is new and both the older version of the app and the SmartThing app work great and stay connected. Its not the most intuitive app. As an example the app offers the ability to combine lights into a room. I defy an first time user to do just that and be able to control those lights!

Declining quality

This used to be a reliable app, now there are regular occurrences when youre unable to access your lighting- this doesnt just mean you cant chang scenes or modify brightness- it means you cant turn the lights on or off so if youre using this for lighting and you need to switch your light on, its very frustrating at the least, potentially dangerous !

All is working

With iPad Pro and after iOS 10.0.2, I had problem reconnecting the Bridge. Removed and reinstalled the app. No settings lost except colors. Working fine as before.

Gen 1 app works fine

I had more issues with the gen 2 app It doesnt make sense and is more complicated to control. This app is simple and upfront. Should have never made a second generation of the app Just improve on what works.

Better than the NEW app

Way better than the new version. Please add support for the motion sensor to this app.

Potentially good product-Horrible software

Dont waste your $$ on this until they throw out & redo the current beyond lame & unintuitive software - the "new" version is even worse

Great lights, garbage app

The lights are great. But the app doesnt work half the time and theres no updated iPad app.

Fantastic App

This app works amazingly. Also it is even better when used with an iPad.
